After releasing their latest album, By Blood, back in April, Shovels & Rope are gearing up to release a new concert film and hit the road. The wife/husband duo of Cary Ann Hearst and Michael Trent recently coupled the premiere of Shovels & Rope: The Movie‘s official trailer with their Fall Tour 2019 annoucement.
The trailer, which was debuted by Rolling Stone, hints at the movie’s experimental nature. Rather than presenting a more traditional and straightforward concert film, the clip gracefully works in a surrealist narrative and boisterous cast of characters throughout the recording from a 2017 live show. Shovels & Rope: The Movie will be released direct to consumer on August 2. In addition to the movie, each purchase includes a separate download of ten live tracks.
Furthermore, Shovels & Rope have announced the dates of their Fall Tour 2019, which spans a month from the beginning of October to the beginning of November. The band will begin in the east with a two-night stand in Charleston, South Carolina, before working their way up the coast. By way of Boston, New York City, and Philadelphia, the duo lands in Toronto in mid-October. From there, the tour winds westward, ultimately arriving on the West Coast a few days ahead of Halloween. To close out the run, Shovels & Rope return to the Midwest with a two-night run in Texas ahead of the tour closer at Nashville, Tennessee’s Ryman Auditorium on November 6.
